In the afternoon of December 6th, 2019, the 8th meeting of the Second Council Meeting of FAFU’s Confucius Institute at DUT was held in Mingde Building. Prof. Zheng Baodong, Vice President of FAFU, Prof. SibusisoMoyo, Vice President of DUT and Foreign Director of CI at DUT, Chinese Director of CI at DUT, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and other relevant personnel attended the meeting.

Firstly, the Chinese Director of CI at DUT reported on the work of CI in 2019 and discussed the work plans of 2020 with other attendees. On behalf of FAFU, Prof. Zheng Baodong thanked DUT for its strong support for the Confucius Institute at DUT, including promoting Chinese and Chinese culture, building new classrooms and workplaces and improving dormitories of volunteer teachers, and he hoped that in-depth cooperation between FAFU and South African universities would be continued by CI at DUT. Besides, two sides exchanged their ideas focusing on establishing a research center for China-Zulu culture, the application for BRICS projects and the project of China-South Africa scientific and technological cooperation, and their CI as the demonstration center of Chinese Language Plus Vocational Skills Training Center. They also discussed the plan to make adjustments to the members of the Second Council.
In 2019, FAFU’s CI at DUT offered 77 courses on various subjects, and the total number of students reached 1,420. In addition, 37 cultural exchange activities were held with an audience of about 90,000 people. Receiving local reaction, these activities were favorable for promoting cultural exchanges between China and South Africa and were also effective in enhancing the influence of CI at DUT in Africa.
